Today, I’m sharing some unforgettable moments from the Lower Loop- join me for the iconic Old Faithful, the hidden gem of Fairy Falls, and our icy plunge into Yellowstone Lake!
First, you will see the Excelsior Geyser, which is stunning in and of itself.
Next, enjoy the views of the Turquoise and Opal Pools.
Finally, you will witness the main attraction, Grand Prismatic, with its deep blue, red, and orange coloring.
After the loop, we chose to walk along the Firehole River. It was a stunning walk where we were able to take in all the geothermal features including Excelsior Geyser Crater.

Lower Loop
1. We began our journey at Grand Prismatic.
I first thought we could start the longer hike here, but that requires parking at Fairy Falls. Instead, Grand Prismatic offers a scenic 0.6-mile boardwalk stroll.

We even felt the hot water!
Tip: Parking can be difficult here. You can either wait for people to leave or park along Firehole River and walk a short distance to the boardwalk.
2. Our next stop was Fairy Falls.

2. Our next stop was Fairy Falls.
Our intention was to hike to the Grand Prismatic overlook. This is a 1.5 mile tout and back trail with an elevation gain of 200 ft.
After viewing Grand Prismatic from a distance, we decided to keep on trekking to Fairy Falls. As we ventured along this trail, the crowds diminished, and we found ourselves mostly solitary.

The trail was a 5.5- mile out and back trail, and well worth it.
Tip: Bring layers, and plenty of water!
3. We finished our hike at about 3:00 and Old Faithful was set to blow at 4:30.
Scott cherished this moment above all else during the day. He only regretted not bringing his swimsuit to take a dip in the pool.

We headed in that direction, grabbed coffee and ice cream, and secured front- row seats. I can appreciate how faithful Old Faithful is.
Tip: Ensure you verify the schedule and aim to arrive at least 45 minutes early to secure refreshments and a prime spot.
4. The final destination on our itinerary was Yellowstone Lake (West Thumb).

Scott was determined to conclude our Yellowstone visit with a refreshing dip in its iconic lake. Passing by the Geyser Basin, we located a pleasant spot with a picnic bench and restroom.
Although Scott's watch typically displays the temperature, it didn't function this time. Relying on his experience, he estimated it was approximately 57 degrees.

Despite both of them describing the lake as slimy and feeling unpleasant afterward, they considered it checked off their list.
The girls snapped photos as we relaxed. On the way back at sunset, we spotted elk. Tired but content, we looked forward to a restful day at camp before leaving.
Overall Experience:
Yellowstone was amazing, with geothermal wonders, vibrant colors, and wildlife. Even in fall, popular spots were crowded, but the quieter trails and hidden gems brought peace and renewal.
Psalm 93:4
Mightier than the thunders of many waters, mightier than the waves of the sea, the Lord on high is mighty?
Reflection
- After exploring Yellowstone, my perspective on the mighty power of God has deepened. Witnessing the turbulence of geothermal waters and erupting geysers reaffirms His incredible strength.
- It prompts us to reflect: Do the events and choices in our lives truly reflect our belief in God's might?
- When challenges arise, do we seek strength from God, or do we question His presence, goodness, and care for us?
- Are we inspired by God's love and compassion to offer support to those in need, or does doubt hinder our actions?
- When faced with life-altering decisions, do we trust in God's guidance with confidence, or do uncertainty and doubt about His provision overwhelm us?
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
You are The Almighty, The God Who Heals, The God Who Is More Than Enough, The Lord Of Heaven's Armies. We come to you with praise and thanksgiving. We request your strength and might in this moment- to face all that the day has for in store for us. We love you!
In Jesus' name, Amen.
