Mississippi: Biloxi Bound

Leaving Chicot State Park behind, we pointed our RV towards Biloxi, Mississippi, with a pit stop at the Bass Pro Shop in Baton Rouge for a breather and a bite.

Biloxi boasts beautiful beaches, tasty food, many casinos, all wrapped in a rich history shaped by Native Americans, French, and Spanish settlers.

Even with just a short stay, our time here was full of exploration and excitement. Join us as we take you through our adventures in this vibrant coastal town!

Keesler AFB FamCamp

Honestly, the FamCamp (military) we stayed at felt cramped and a bit snug. Although we love the oak trees and Spanish moss, low-hanging branches and wires added to the concern.

Site 25, where we parked, was too tight for our rig. While many rave about this FamCamp, perhaps a different site would have made a difference. For us, it's not high on our list. On the bright side, its location near everything was a definite plus.

Tip: Make sure to be mindful of the height of your rig, especially with the air conditioners. We've witnessed too many instances of them being damaged by tree branches or low bridges.

Brunch

For a delightful Biloxi experience, make sure to visit Le Cafe Beignet nestled in the Historic District. When we stopped by, we hadn't yet tasted beignets, but the friendly staff surprised us with a complimentary sampling of two varieties! It was an instant love affair.

The cafe's warm and inviting ambiance only added to the allure. Their breakfast and lunch offerings were scrumptious, and their specialty treats and drinks, like their creamy-topped freshly squeezed orange juice, made it an ideal brunch destination. Don't miss out on this charming spot!

Ocean Springs

Explore downtown Ocean Springs with its array of shops and dining options, or opt for a stroll along the stunning beach trails like we did.

Despite the chilly weather during our visit, the beauty of Biloxi's beaches took me by surprise. Mississippi may not be the first place that comes to mind when envisioning pretty beaches, but trust me, they are a hidden gem waiting to be discovered.

Overall Experience

Biloxi's abundance of casinos is a defining characteristic of the city, presenting both opportunities and challenges depending on one's perspective.

While some visitors may revel in the excitement and entertainment they offer, others, including myself, perceive them as detracting from the city's coastal allure and family-friendly ambiance.

For me, casinos symbolize societal issues like overindulgence and self-gratification. Nevertheless, Biloxi's beauty extends beyond its casino-lined streets, and those willing to explore further will uncover its hidden charms and coastal treasures.

Bible Verse

Titus 2:11-12

“For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age”

Reflection

  • As followers of Christ, our lives should stand out from the norm. Whether perceived as unconventional, helpful, strange, or selfless, there should be something distinctive about us.

  • This journey of distinction is ongoing for me. Over the past couple of years, I've made significant strides in pursuing righteousness, yet I recognize there's still a long road ahead.

  • I've been exploring some ways to keep God at the forefront of my life amidst worldly distractions. These are just some practices I've found helpful:

    1. When I receive something I try to give something. It's not always easy, but it helps me stay focused on what truly matters and keeps my life simpler.
    2. Drastically reducing my consumption of TV and movies, reserving it only for rare occasions with my children.
    3. Committing to daily Bible study sessions with Scott, it's a beautiful way to start our day.
    4. I've been gravitating towards Christian music lately. It just seems to uplift my spirit and keep my thoughts centered on God.

    5. Remaining attentive to “God Shots” throughout the day and vocalizing gratitude for them.
    6. We've started saying prayers together as a family. It's a simple practice, but it brings us closer and sets a positive tone for our day.

    7. Becoming mindful of my relationship with food, practicing fasting, gratitude, and opting for wholesome eating habits, resulting in both spiritual and physical benefits.

    • These are just a few practices that have significantly impacted my life, although I am far from perfect, I am growing every day. In the past, they might have seemed either dull or unattainable, but now I find myself more fulfilled, joyful, optimistic, and enthusiastic about life than ever before.

I'm eager to learn about the practical ways you prioritize God over worldly temptations. Please share your thoughts in the comments below.
