As we were stranded in Louisiana, the spontaneous urge to visit the Keys took hold. Being last-minute planners, we thrive on the excitement of unexpected adventures. Though finding available and affordable campgrounds in Florida during winter proved challenging, we were blessed to secure a spot in Ocala.
Our journey there was nothing short of amazing, filled with thrilling experiences and cherished memories. Join us as we share the highlights and joy of our time in the “Horse Capital of the World!"
We visited this park over two years ago, and I jotted down in my journal: "too crowded - lots of full-timers - grumpy older folks- $35/night." Although this 55+ campground wasn't perfect, they did permit us to stay with our kids for up to two weeks.
The silver lining was that our children made new friends and enjoyed all the park's amenities, such as the swimming pool and pool table – which might explain why the long term residents seemed a bit grumpy!
Another positive about this park is that it was right across the street from one of our favorite places, Silver Springs State Park.
This place is an absolute must-see! The park features one of Florida's largest artesian springs, producing millions of gallons of fresh water each day. The water is so clear that you can easily spot all the underwater creatures.
We rented kayaks and were lucky enough to visit in mid-February, just in time to see mama manatees with their babies. We also saw alligators and turtles. I was paired up with my daughter, who was so scared of the gator that she paddled like crazy, soaking me in the process.
If water activities aren't your thing, the park also offers a beautiful scenic boardwalk where you can enjoy the stunning blue water and lush greenery. Alternatively, you can take a glass-bottom boat tour to see what lies beneath the surface.
For my daughter’s thirteenth birthday, we got her tickets to go ziplining. My son was terrified of heights, but I was so proud of him for conquering his fear to support his sister.
I highly recommend this place. We all felt very safe, and the scenery was absolutely stunning.
Our final adventure in Ocala was an escape room. Escape rooms are a great resource when homeschooling as it enhances critical thinking and problem solving skills, teamwork and collaboration, real world applications, time management, focus, and perseverance.
Ocala sits in the heart of North Central Florida, where lush landscapes and equestrian pursuits take precedence over sandy shores. During our time there, our kids made fast friends with fellow road-schoolers and had an absolute blast. We struck up a conversation with their mom, a single parent who bravely towed her camper across the country, balancing remote work and homeschooling. Meeting incredible individuals like her is one of the most rewarding aspects of our nomadic lifestyle.
How have I actively sought opportunities to uplift and support those around me?

Bible Verse
1 Thessalonians 5:11 (NASB)
"Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing."
Reflections
- In this passage, Paul addresses the believers in Thessalonica, commending them for their efforts in encouraging one another. He acknowledges their success in this regard but also encourages them to persist in their supportive actions.
- It's truly incredible to encounter fellow Christians at campgrounds and experience the instant connection and mutual encouragement. The sense of camaraderie is both uplifting and exhilarating.
- Meeting fellow believers not only allows us to strengthen our faith together but also provides an opportunity to share the hope we have in Christ with others and explain the reasons behind our lifestyle choices.
We must ask ourselves
How have I actively sought opportunities to uplift and support those around me?
Am I one to see the best or worst in others?
Do I gossip or point out the faults in others because of my own insecurities?
Do I care too much what people think instead of boldly starting a conversation?
Do I encourage with truth, or do I seek approval?
Do I avoid people?
I have been guilty of all of these things, but strive to do better every day because loving people is important to my God who loves me despite my flaws.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
We are grateful for the community of supportive individuals you have placed in our lives. Please guide me in uplifting others towards you and being a source of positivity and joy in their lives. Your goodness is constant, and I ask for your love to flow through me as I interact with others.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
