Oak Grove Park on NAS Pensacola

Oak Grove Park emerges as a highly coveted spot among military RV enthusiasts, often filling up fast due to its popularity. Here are a few things this campground offers:

Scenic Surroundings: Nestled amidst natural beauty, the campsites have grassy areas and offer a convenient short trail leading to the pristine white sands and mesmerizing blue waters of the coastline.

Base Amenities: While the sites may be a tad snug for our liking, access to all base amenities more than compensates. From recreational facilities to essential services, Naval Air Station ensures a comfortable and enjoyable stay for its guests.

Tip: Check out Cosmic Bowling on Friday nights!

Naval Aviation Museum ( Open to Public)

This is one of the largest aviation museums in the world! Here are ten reasons why you should visit:

1. The museum covers an area of 350,000 square feet, and houses over 150 beautifully restored aircraft representing Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard aviation.

2. It serves as the official museum of naval aviation in the United States.

3. The museum features a wide range of exhibits, including historic aircraft from World War I to the present day, as well as artifacts, documents, photographs, and interactive displays that chronicle the rich history of naval aviation.

4. NAS Pensacola is the home of the U.S. Navy Blue Angels flight demonstration team, and the museum displays several aircraft used by the Blue Angels throughout their history.

5.
Among the aircraft on display are iconic models such as the F-14 Tomcat, F-4 Phantom II, P-51 Mustang, and the NC-4—the first aircraft to cross the Atlantic Ocean.

6. The museum offers various interactive exhibits and flight simulators, allowing visitors to experience the thrill of flying naval aircraft firsthand.

7. It hosts educational programs and events for visitors of all ages, including guided tours, flight simulators, and educational workshops focused on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) subjects and aviation history.

8.The museum includes memorials and exhibits honoring the contributions and sacrifices of naval aviators throughout history, including those who have received the Medal of Honor for their valor in combat.

9.The museum is open to the public and admission is free, making it an accessible and educational destination for visitors from around the world.

10. In addition to its extensive exhibits, the museum offers amenities such as a gift shop, café, and ample parking, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable experience for all visitors.

TIP: Visitors can also watch practice sessions of the Blue Angels during certain times of the year. We were fortunate enough to watch a practice, and it was awesome!

Pensacola Lighthouse NAS (Open to Public)

Our friends informed us that you can watch the Blue Angels practice from the top of the Lighthouse, what an experience! Here are three things to know before you go:
  1. The Pensacola Lighthouse has stood as a guiding beacon since 1824, making it one of the oldest lighthouses on the Gulf Coast.
  2. The Pensacola Lighthouse is open to the public for tours, allowing visitors to climb to the top and enjoy breathtaking views of Pensacola Bay, the Gulf of Mexico, and the surrounding area. Guided tours provide insights into the lighthouse's history and significance.
  3. Adjacent Museum: Adjacent to the lighthouse is the Richard C. Callaway Museum, which showcases artifacts and exhibits related to the history of the lighthouse, naval aviation, and Pensacola's maritime heritage.

Overall Experience

In 2007, while undergoing training at Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola, Scott wrestled with a feeling of displacement from his California roots, finding it challenging to forge connections in the unfamiliar surroundings.

However, upon revisiting the base with us fifteen years later, he encountered a profound change in perspective, developing a newfound affection for Pensacola. It was truly remarkable to witness the transformative influence of God unfold over time.

Bible Verse

Ephesians 4:22-24 (NLT)

"Throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy."

Reflections

Here are some practical examples of old ways of thinking:

  • Believing that success is measured by material wealth and possessions.
  • Holding onto grudges and seeking revenge when wronged.
  • Viewing others with suspicion and distrust, assuming the worst about their intentions.
  • Relying solely on personal strength and abilities to navigate life's challenges.
  • Seeing failure as a reflection of personal inadequacy and giving up easily.

Here are some practical examples of new ways of thinking:

  • Understanding that true success comes from living life on purpose and making a positive impact on others through the Holy Spirit.
  • Choosing to forgive and show grace, even when it's difficult, and seeking reconciliation instead of retaliation.
  • Extending trust by seeing others through the eyes of Jesus, fostering healthy relationships built on mutual respect.
  • Leaning on God's strength and seeking guidance through prayer and reliance on His wisdom.
  • Embracing failure as an opportunity for growth and learning, persevering with resilience and faith.

We must ask ourselves, “Am I actively putting off my old self and allowing God to renew my mind?”

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Help us to let go of our old selves and embrace the new life You offer. Renew our minds and guide us to live in a way that reflects Your love and truth. Help us to see ourselves and others through your eyes of love and compassion.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
