Missouri: Exploring the Ozarks

Scott and I had both been to Saint Louis before, but exploring Missouri’s Ozark region? That was a whole new adventure waiting to happen. From charming small towns to jaw-dropping nature, the Ozarks quickly won us over.

Join us for a peek at some of our favorite moments and experiences from our time in this stunning corner of Missouri!

Kimberling City

For two blissful weeks, Kimberling Marina and Resort was our home sweet home, complete with dreamy lake views—for just $28 a night!

This cozy little town near Branson gave us the best of both worlds: peaceful mornings by the water and plenty of nearby adventures.

Oh, and the sound of church bells drifting through the air? That was the cherry on top.

Eureka Springs

Just an hour’s drive from Kimberling City, Eureka Springs is like stepping into a postcard. The whole town is on the National Register of Historic Places, and it shows—every corner is full of charm! We wandered its quirky streets, popping into galleries, boutiques, and restaurants.

One of our favorite shops was Two Dumb Dames Fudge Factory.

Let’s just say we didn’t leave empty-handed (or with much self-control).

Springfield & Dogwood Canyon

If you’re up for a day trip, Springfield is just an hour from Kimberling City and home to the original Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World, a massive 500,000-square-foot space for outdoor lovers.

But the real must-see nearby is Dogwood Canyon, a 10,000-acre nature park created by Bass Pro Shops founder Johnny Morris.

Everyone said we had to visit, and they weren’t wrong!

We took a tram tour through the canyon, and it was unforgettable. Streams teemed with trophy trout...

We got up close to elk, bison, and even a rare albino bison!

If you visit in early spring, make sure to bundle up—it was freezing on our tour!

Beyond the wildlife, the park reflects Morris’s dedication to conservation and blends perfectly with the breathtaking surroundings.

Dogwood Canyon became one of our favorite experiences on this full-time RV journey.

Silver Dollar City

If you’re looking for a bit of adventure, Silver Dollar City is the place to go!

It’s a family-friendly theme park with a real Ozark charm. It reminded me of Knott’s Berry Farm but with a more wholesome atmosphere.

Our daughter, the thrill-seeker of the family, had Scott riding all the rides while my son and I explored the blacksmith shop, leather goods, and delicious food stands.

We even caught a live band playing Christian music, which was the icing on the cake.

Branson

Just 20 minutes up the road from Kimberling City, Branson is where small-town charm meets big-time fun. Known as the "Live Entertainment Capital of the World," it’s packed with music shows, attractions, and outdoor adventures.

Overall Experience

Our time in Missouri’s Ozarks was the perfect blend of peaceful retreat and action-packed adventure—everything we hoped for and more. Whether you’re exploring in a fifth wheel or simply passing through, this region is an absolute must-visit.

Trust me, you’ll fall in love with it just as we did.

Two things stood out above all: the breathtaking natural beauty and the focus on family-friendly activities.

It felt like stepping back to a time when family and the great outdoors were at the heart of life. In those moments, I realized this was the kind of place I had always dreamed of—where simplicity and connection thrive.

Looking back, I see how God truly knew the desires of our hearts and led us to a place that perfectly aligns with our values. Today, we are blessed to live in a community that prioritizes wholesome experiences and the beauty of nature, and we couldn’t be more grateful for the journey that brought us here.

Psalm 37:23 NLT

“The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives.”

Context

  • Psalm 37 was written by King David to encourage people to trust God, even when life seems unfair. It reminds us that bad people might seem to succeed for a little while, but God blesses those who live rightly.

  • Verse 23 highlights how God cares for His people. It says He guides their steps and takes joy in their lives. The next verse (Psalm 37:24) adds that even if they stumble or make mistakes, God will hold them up and keep them from falling completely.

Reflection

Finding Direction in Life:

We all face times when we’re not sure which way to go—whether it’s making a big decision or dealing with unexpected changes. This verse reminds us that God is actively guiding us, even when we can’t see the whole plan.

Knowing God Cares About You:

THIS IS MY FAVORITE PART OF THE PSALM. It’s comforting to know that God doesn’t just see the big picture of our lives; He also cares about the little things. He delights in our joys, efforts, and even our struggles.

Hope When Things Go Wrong:

We all make mistakes or face challenges that feel like stumbling blocks. This verse—and the one after it—reminds us that even when we trip, God will catch us and help us move forward.

"God’s love for you is not based on your performance; it’s based on His nature. He will not give up on you."-John Piper

Application

Seeking God and trusting Him has been a recurring theme for us these past two weeks.

We’re teaching our kids that spending time with God isn’t just about reading the Bible, praying, or going to church—though those are important and so good.

It’s also about inviting God into every part of your day and having ongoing conversations with Him, no matter what you’re doing.

Let’s not put God in a box—He wants to be part of every part of our lives.

Being a Christian isn’t just about what happens after we die; it’s about a relationship with God right now, experiencing His presence and peace every day.

Trusting Him, even when we don’t understand, and stepping out in faith makes life anything but boring.

We were just talking about how following Jesus is the opposite of dull—it’s a wild and amazing adventure!

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

thank You for being with us every step of the way. Help us to trust You more, invite You into every part of our lives, and experience Your love and guidance daily. We trust that You are leading us on a wild and wonderful journey.

In Jesus name Amen.
